Read David and Bob’s submissions with interest but as I reach the end of my chapter in life it seems all a little unimportant.. I make two inconsequential contributions. My first experiences as a reader involved processing at the beginning and end of the services along with incumbent and choir. Rather than position myself between choir and vicar he insisted that he and I walk alongside thereby establishing me in a perceived position within the congregation. Those days are long gone.
From discussions , it seems that when a new Priest is appointed, there are, understandably , frequent discussions and liaison with church wardens, but readers seem to be very much an afterthought. Almost as if we are not an integral part of the ministry team but more of an add on.
